What does it mean?
A Safe Community is a community that promotes injury prevention activities at the local level to solve local injury problems.  It uses a "bottom up" approach involving its citizens in addressing key injuryproblems.
What are the elements?
    1.    A Safe Community program uses an integrated and comprehensive injury control system that addresses commmunity injury problems.

    2.    The community has a coalition/task force that has  representation from local citizens and agencies.

    3.    The community conducts comprehensive problems identification.

    4.    The community conducts program assessments to determine gaps in injury prevention activities.

    5.    The community implements a plan that addresses the injury problems.

    6.    The community evaluates the program to determine the impact and cost benefit where possible.

So where are we?
  • As a result of this project the Tehama County Childhood Injury Profile was created.
  • Evaluation of the data and selection of an injury prevention activity is in progress.
  • Implementation is planned to begin in early 1999.
